A colorless to slightly yellow liquid with a pungent odor.  Noncombustible.

 

This is a strong and highly corrosive acid.  Soluble in water, alcohol, and

 

benzene.

 

 

Most commonly used for ore/mineral separation and as an alkylation catalyst.

 

Also a laboratory reagent.
