Detailed Product Description:
A white crystalline powder. Soluble in boiling water.
A strong oxidizing agent commonly used in reagents, disinfectants,
and for oxygen generation.
Potassium chlorate is often used in college laboratories to generate
oxygen gas—for small quantities of oxygen, it can be cost effective
when compared to the alternative pressurized or cryogenic oxygen tank.
Potassium chlorate will readily decompose if heated in contact with
a catalyst—typically manganese (IV) dioxide.
Potassium chlorate has also been used in the oxygen-supply systems of
aircraft.
