Detailed Product Description:
Potassium Chromate is a lemon yellow compound that is in the form of a
crystalline solid, and very stable. Soluble in water but insoluble in alcohol.
Grade/Purity:
This is ACS Reagent Grade material with a minimum purity of 99%.
Applications:
Most often used as a reagent in analytical chemistry. Also found in enamels,
inks, and paints as a color pigment.
Potassium chromate (K2CrO4) is a yellow chemical indicator often used for
identifying concentrations of chloride ions in a salt solution with silver nitrate.
Precautions:
Potassium Chromate is very toxic and may be fatal if swallowed. It may
also act as a carcinogen, and can create reproductive defects if inhaled or
swallowed. It also is a strong oxidizing agent. It may react rapidly, or
violently in the presence of organic materials.
It is a class two carcinogen and can cause cancer on inhalation.
Chromium is highly likely to induce sensitization leading to dermatitis,
especially of the hand and fore-arms which is chronic and difficult to
treat. The compound is also corrosive and exposure may produce severe
eye damage or blindness
