Detailed Product Description:
A white crystalline powder. Soluble in water.
A strong oxidizing agent commonly used in photography,
reagents, pyrotechnics and for solid fuel rocket propellants.
Potassium perchlorate can be used safely in the presence of
sulfur whereas its closely related cousin, potassium chlorate cannot.
Over time, sulfur will produce minute quantities of sulfuric acid which
will, in turn, react with potassium chlorate to product chloric acid
which is highly unstable and can lead to premature ignition of the
composition. However, the similar acid of potassium perchlorate,
perchloric acid, is stable enough to prevent spontaneous ignition.
