Detailed Product Description:
Thioacetamide is an organosulfur compound. This white crystalline solid is
soluble in water, alcohol, ether, and benzene, and serves as a source of
hydrogen sulfide in the synthesis of organic and inorganic compounds.
Grade/Purity:
This is Reagent grade, with a minimum purity of 98%.
Applications:
Thioacetamide has only one significant use currently as a replacement for
hydrogen sulfide in qualitative analyses. Thioacetamide has been used
historically as an organic solvent in the leather, textile, and paper industries,
as an accelerator in the vulcanization of buna rubber, and as a stabilizer
of motor fuel. However, there is no evidence that it is currently used for
any of these purposes.
Thioacetamide was widely used in classical qualitative inorganic analysis
as an in situ source for sulfide ions. Thus, treatment of aqueous solutions
of many metal cations to a solution of thioacetamide affords the corresponding
metal sulfide.
Precautions:
Toxic by ingestion and inhalation. It is a class 2B carcinogen.
May cause irritation to skin, eyes, and respiratory tract. Combustible.
